Hi and hello Posted on 31 Dec 00:06

I am a 55 year old female who has only just learnt to paint 5 years ago. My husband had a horrific accident that has left him a Paraplegic. I became his Carer as of that day. Upon returning home 7 months later after the extensive time in hospital and then rehab his Dr became concerned that I wasn't getting out and doing anything. She suggested I come along to painting with her. I said that I don't know how to paint or draw. I am crafty but not in the sense of artistic. Anyway I went along to art classes once a week and learnt the basics. Over the next 2 years I went along every week art was on. I was very nervous as I didn't understand which colours to use, wasn't confident in mixing paint when alone. I considered I could mimic a photo but this was my downfall.

I took a break for 18 months and never touched a brush then one day I decided to commenced back into lessons, did a few workshops and felt a little bit of confidence coming in. Then I injured my shoulder and it required extensive surgery. It was in a sling for 4  months. I continued to go to lessons but used my left hand. Something happened during this process. I gained more confidence, didn't stress as much, explored colours and just painted. That was almost 2 years ago and now am heavily involved in an 8 day Arts Festival as the President.
